You wouldn’t think that a stock Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG and its 525 horsepower would need much help in the giddy-up department, but that apparently was not enough for German tuner Carlsson. With a few tricks they’ve learned along the way in upgrading other Mercedes models, they have managed to massage the car’s 6.2 liter V8 to a cool 600 hp and 520lb-ft of torque.

Although modifications to all things speed related are the most significant change, Carlson adds a few special touches both inside and out. The extras include a fully functional carbon-fiber aerodynamic kit, special leather interior with Carlsson badging and a unique paint color, “Stealth Titanium Graphite,” added to five other color options. The unique front spoiler and rear air diffuser are made of a lightweight polyurethane that is meant to reduce lift on the front axle and improve engine cooling.

Changes inside include the use of charcoal-colored suede and soft velour, which we are pretty ambivalent about as a whole. As we are of the forward leaning doors that have been adopted to the Benz. Velour and scissor-style doors? Where’s Sonny Crockett and my pink tank top?

Upgraded (maybe) Interior

Mechanically, the SL63 is capable of making the trip from 0 to 60 mpg in a blistering 4.1 seconds, .4 seconds quicker than the stock version. Top speed is electronically limited to 202 mph. An electronic lowering C-Tronic suspension by Carlsson has been combined with the ABC-sports running gear by AMG that permits lowering of the roadster up to 30 millimeters. A high-performance carbon composite brake system has also been added by Carlsson to counteract the car’s increased speed.
